Super Eagles
will have their hands full when the qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup in Russia
begins. The Eagles who are still waiting for confirmation as to who exactly
will lead them through the qualifiers have been pitched against Desert Warriors
of Algeria, Chipolopolo of Zambia and Indomitable lions of Cameroon. The draw what was released Friday put Nigeria
in Group B of the five group qualifiers. Algeria best appearance at the world
cup was in 2014 in Brazil where they made it to the round of 16. Cameroon had
their best at the Italia 90 where they made it to the quarterfinal while
Nigeria boasts of the best profile in world cup reaching the round of 16 three
times 1994 in USA, 1998 in France and 2014 in Brazil. On paper Zambia could be
the disadvantaged team as surprise qualifiers.
This stage
of the preliminary competition will involve 20 teams drawn into five four-team
groups, with sides playing each other home and away on a round-robin basis. All
five group winners will qualify automatically for Russia 2018.
